In the hot hot hot (gosh, it was hot) summer of 2018, Bow Church had stalls at the Tower Hamlets Cemetery and Nature Reserve and at the Mile End Old Town Residents Association summer fairs. Church dog Merlin was throughly spoilt by visitors – and spent much of his time lying asleep in the shade (let sleeping dogs lie).
We sold secondhand books and church publications, tea towels, greeting cards, lemon curd and plants. Simon had a long and erudite discussion with two police horses. We invited people to come to the celebrations about the completed work on the conservation of the tower on 14 July – tempting them with thoughts of Erin’s splendid Tower Cake. We handed out squash. And over 60 people filled out ‘evaluation forms’, to help us work out how we can engage with the community around us.
