1911: The eldest son of William Frederick and Frances Elizabeth (deceased by the 1911 Census) of 48 Northfield Road, East Ham. 3 brothers: Frederick 18; Francis 16; Leonard 7; sister Winifred 2. He became a Rifleman and enlisted in Bow.

At the time of the 1911 Census he was living with his father and stepmother, Margaret, and two younger brothers at 49 Northfield Road, East Ham and working as a druggist assistant.

London Regiment 1/17 Bn/ No 2949 (2940 on CWGC).

Rifleman Clarke died at the Battle of Loos. He left his father £9.12.9d + £4 war gratuity.
