Born in 1897 in Hackney the third son of Charles and Maud Vowell. In 1911 he was living with his family at 28 Orchard Place, Clapton, but by the time of his death his parents were at 136 Daubeney Rd, Clapton, London. On leaving school at 14, Henry was employed as an errand boy for an oil shop.

1911 Census lists: Parents Charles and Maude, 136 Daubeney Road, Clapton; brothers Charles (24); George (19) Albert (12); Reuben (4).

Worked as an errand boy. Enlisted in Bow.

Last known address (1911): 28 Orchard Place, Clapton.

Rifleman Vowell died at the Battle of Loos. He left his father £5.6.8d and his mother his £3 war gratuity.
