Welcome to the website of Bow Church. We are the Church of England parish of St Mary & Holy Trinity in Tower Hamlets, London. For 700 years, the church has stood in the middle of this community, witness to the love of God for our city and the world.
As you may know, public worship has been suspended. Whilst we had not been running formal services, the church had been open for prayer. Sadly, however, London is ahead of the rest of the country in seeing a steep rise in the number of those falling sick with COVID-19. We have all heard the strong calls from the Mayor and the Prime Minister not to leave home unless it is essential, and not to use public transport unless we have to. If our attempts to distance ourselves physically from one another and prevent the spread of infection are not effective, more people will die.
In light of this, the time has come, in London, not only for us to suspend public worship, but for us to close our church building entirely. In doing this we demonstrate how important physical distancing is in saving lives.
Tim, our Rector, has prepared sermons, prayer and discussion based materials for you – these can be accessed on our YouTube channel here . Please subscribe so that you’ll be automatically notified of further uploads.
Each day the Church of England publishes audio and text of the day’s prayer, which can be accessed through the Church’s smart speaker apps.
On Mothering Sunday morning the Archbishop of Canterbury lead a service recorded in the crypt chapel at Lambeth Palace, with hymns sung by St Martin’s Voices. You can watch it here.
Pray for us, as we do for you, in these difficult days.
